Special Session on

Algebraic Statistics

and its Interactions with Combinatorics, Computation, and Network Science

2015 AMS Fall Central Section Meeting

Loyola University Chicago, Chicago, IL
October 3-4, 2015 (Saturday - Sunday)

Organizers:Sonja Petrovic and Despina Stasi

Synopsis: Recent advances in algebraic statistics have broadened the field beyond the 'traditional' algebraic statistics for contingency tables. The field is currently expanding in several directions. First, it is beginning to include various tools from combinatorics. Second, its computational aspects relying on numerical algebraic geometry are advancing to address statistical questions crucial for validity of statistical inference. Finally, its applications are broadening beyond biology, to include physics, network science and social sciences. This special session includes both junior and senior researchers whose contributions span the various aspects of the field.
