Dear AMAT UGrads/Grads,

The following real-data hackathon is available for undergraduate and
graduate MS students (PhD students as "advisors"). There will be tutorials
-- you do not have to be particularly experienced, though it will be useful
to find a teammate who has some experience with the data
mining/exploration/analysis pipeline.

> Dear Professor Liu,
> I am writing to let you know that American Statistical Associations (ASA)
> DataFest 2019 will take place at Loyola University Chicago over the weekend
> of March 29-March 31, 2019. Would you please share this event with your

> ASA DataFest is a data analysis challenge where students working in teams
> (2-5 students) attack a large and complex surprise dataset over one
> weekend. The event is sponsored by the ASA. The main goal of the
> competition is to get students to collaborate (and compete) on a data
> analysis question that is likely beyond the scope of what they see in their
> classes. It is really a good practice for students. More details and
> registration information can be found at
> http://pascal.math.luc.edu/datafest/ .
> It is not necessary, but please let me know if your organization would be
> interested co-sponsoring ASA DataFest 2019, contributing to the pool of
> funds which will be used for prizes, t-shirts, food, etc. throughout the
> event. All sponsors will be listed on the DataFest website and the
> promotional materials (including T-shirts!). Thank you very much!
