You may have already received this announcement, but I just
got another phone call encouraging attendance. This is a conference about
careers and graduate school in statistics – especially for undergraduates.
It’s at the University of Chicago a week from Saturday, and it’s free. But
you must register.

More information can be found below. Tell your friends, and go together!

*Subject:* StatFest! A one-day conference for undergraduates.

*Dear colleague, *

*StatFest 2015, a one day conference at The University of Chicago, is just
over a week away. There is still room for students and we would appreciate
you posting the flyer, forwarding this email (with attachment) to your
colleagues and helping us reach out to your institution’s students in the
relevant departments, including natural and behavioral sciences, business,
economics, education, etc.*

*StatFest* is a one day conference aimed at encouraging undergraduate
students from historically underrepresented groups to consider careers and
graduate studies in the statistical sciences. The conference is an ongoing
initiative of the American Statistical Association through its Committee on
Minorities in Statistics. The conference includes presentations from
established professionals, academic leaders, and current graduate students
that will help attendees understand the opportunities and routes for
success in the field. Panel forums include information and tips for a
rewarding graduate student experience, achieving success as an academic
statistician, opportunities in the private and government arenas, among
other topics.

The next StatFest will be held on *Saturday, September 26, 2015*, at *The
University of Chicago* (Chicago, IL) and co-sponsored by Abbott
Laboratories. Please help us to spread the word about StatFest to
underrepresented minority undergraduate students from the *mathematical,
natural and behavioral sciences, engineering, economics, and all other
quantitative disciplines* and encourage them to come to this event. There
is no cost to attend the conference, but *registration is required*. If
several students will be coming from the same institution, we can offer
some assistance with costs of ground transportation (e.g. van or bus
rental). Also, we will hold a poster session at the end of the day that
will allow undergraduates with research projects an opportunity to present
their work.

A flyer is attached; more information and a link to the *registration form*
are available on the StatFest website

We look forward to seeing you and your students at StatFest!

Best regards,

Sydeaka Watson, Beimar Iriarte, and Ann Podleski - StatFest 2015 local
organizing committee
