Dear Faculty, Students and Postdocs,

Fur full consideration, applications for the Sixth q-bio Summer School are
due on Friday, February 24th.

This year the school will contain three new themes and will be held on two
separate campuses in Santa Fe (New Mexico) and San Diego (California).
Both schools will be held July 23 through August 8, 2012, just before the
q-bio conference.

Please feel free to forward this announcement to all students or colleagues
who have an interest in quantitative biology.

*School Overview:*
The q-bio Summer School is an annual three-week event intended to advance
predictive modeling of cellular regulatory systems by exposing participants
to a broad survey of work in quantitative biology as well as providing in
depth instruction in modeling techniques relevant to specific areas. The
areas that will be covered this year including stochastic gene regulation,
cell signaling, viral dynamics, molecular mechanics, computational
neuroscience and synthetic biology. Participants will attend two daily core
lectures in the morning and a lab in the afternoon. The core lectures will
tend to cover theory and modeling of cellular regulatory systems/networks.
The labs are hands-on and more specialized. Students will work on projects
individually or in small teams under the guidance of the summer school
faculty. The summer school is designed for graduate students, postdocs, or
anyone with a quantitative background who is new to modeling cellular
regulatory systems/networks.

Core lectures will take place on two campuses (in Santa Fe and San Diego).
All students will attend Los Alamos q-bio Days, which will feature student
project reports and invited seminar-style talks. Students will also
participate in the The Sixth q-bio Conference in Santa Fe (Aug. 8-Aug. 12,
2012).

At the school students will attend 20-25 hours of general lectures, 20-25
hours of theme-specific lectures and labs, 10-15 hours of student
presentations, 20-30 hours of mentored project work.  At Los Alamos q-Bio
days and the q-bio conference, students will attend presentations from 25
internationally recognized invited speakers, 30 competitively selected
contributed speakers, and over 120 competitively selected poster
presentations. All students will be given the opportunity to present a 20
minute research talk at the school as well as a poster at the Los Alamos
q-bio Days and/or at the q-bio Conference.
