Dear Students,

A CSL Summer Research Stipend is one way of getting paid to do interesting
research with a professor.

If you're interested, find a potential faculty research mentor and ask them
to nominate you for such a stipend.

More info below and in the attached nomination/application form.

Call for Nominations: 2011 CSL Undergraduate Summer Research Stipend

The College of Science and Letters invites nominations for this year's
undergraduate summer research program. Winners receive $5,000 to conduct 10
weeks of research with a faculty member. All CSL majors are eligible; all
IIT faculty may nominate a student. Past winners have done research in
humanities, political science, computer science, applied mathematics,
biology, chemistry, and physics. Read about the work of last year's winners
here. [http://blogs.iit.edu/csl_ug_summer_research/2010/07/07/welcome/]

Now in its fifth year, the program gives undergraduates in CSL disciplines a
chance to do research with faculty during the summer, when they can focus
their efforts. Research experience allows students to explore their
interests, solve problems, advance knowledge, and prepare for the next step
- whether graduate school, medical school, or the workplace.

To be eligible for the summer stipend, students should be full-time
undergraduates in CSL, usually a sophomore or junior, in good standing, with
a grade point average of 3.0 or above. They also should not be a recipient
of another, similar stipend. All majors in CSL are encouraged to apply.

Nomination forms can be found here. Faculty may submit nominations by March
10, and CSL will announce the awards in April.
