Please reply directly to Ms. Collins (collinsg at iit.edu).
We urgently need help setting up for the 4:40 Monday Jan 22 colloquium and
buying food and setting up for the 4:40 Wednesday Jan 24 colloquium.
Whoever can help with these please let Ms. Collins know ASAP.
After this week, our policies for setting up for colloquium will change; I
will send more information about this after returning from a conference.
Thank you,
Robert Ellis
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear graduate students,
A very positive and appreciated point about our department is the hospitality
we provide to our visiting speakers. In order to maintain this, as in previous
semesters, we are asking for volunteers to assist with two functions related to
the seminars and colloquia:
-- buying and setting up snacks and coffee
-- setting up any necessary equipment for the talk.
Please consider volunteering for one of these, especially if you have not done
so in a previous semester. The first talk is Wednesday, January 17, so I hope
you could reply by Monday morning, January 15. The details are as follows.
snacks
======
This would be two people, with a suggested split of first 6 weeks vs last 8
weeks due to the extra speakers in the first part of the semester. You must
not have a class running until 4:30 on Monday or Wednesday since most talks are
4:40 Monday/Wednesday. You would be purchasing snacks and coffee and preparing
them before the talk. Reimbursements would be provided through Ms. Collins.
Details to be discussed later.
Equipment setup
===============
Due to the new overhead projectors for laptops, equipment setup has been
greatly simplified. Therefore I am asking for only one volunteer for the whole
semester. Duties would be to bring any needed equipment to the room and take
it away afterward, and if no equipment is needed, to arrive 5 minutes before to
be available if there are technical difficulties.
Thank you,
Robert Ellis
