Hello all,
The seminar will not be held this week. I wanted to clarify that in case
some of you looked at the announcement for tomorrow's talk on the
seminar webpage. Marcus Schaefer's talk has been moved to Wednesday, May
7th (three weeks from tomorrow).
The primary reason for this postponement was an interesting talk
tomorrow at Depaul University (announcement from Bridget Tenner is given
below).
Janos Pach from Courant Institute, one of the leading geometers in the
world, will be visiting IIT and UIC next week. He will speak at IIT on
Tuesday and at UIC on Wednesday, so mark your calendars. More details
will follow later this week.

Dear Colleagues,
I want to draw your attention to an upcoming talk in combinatorics. On
Wednesday April 16, Bruce Sagan (Michigan State University) will give
the Colloquium at DePaul. The talk will be on the Lincoln Park campus
at 3:30, preceded by coffee at 3pm in the math department (2320 N
Kenmore, 5th floor).
The title and abstract of the talk are below. I hope you can join us.

Congruences for Combinatorial Sequences
by Bruce Sagan (joint with Emeric Deutsch)
We derive congruences for various sequences involving binomial
coefficients. In particular, we are able to prove some conjectures of
Benoit Cloitre. Surprisingly, the Thue-Morse sequence (from the theory
of combinatorics on words) makes an appearance.
